When sleeping, the muscles and tissues in the throat tend to relax which results to the breathing airways becoming smaller than normal. The shrinkage of the air passage in the throat increases the speed of the air when breathing. When the space is constricted, the increased velocity triggers a vibration in the throat such as of the soft palate and the uvula. This is the way the noise is created when snoring. There could be numerous roots of snoring. As concluded in sleep studies, too much drinking of alcohol, excessive fats especially in the area of the throat and taking sedatives worsen snoring. Although not all people snore when they sleep, everyone must have experienced this in one way or another. Some people snore only when they have colds or when sleeping in their backs.
To treat the snoring trouble, surgical procedures could be done. These involved the trimming of respiration obstructions such as impaired uvula, part of the enlarged tonsils and adenoids. The use of radio frequency apparatus is used to correct the deviated tissues. However, surgical processes have shown little success in terminating the snoring noise. To avoid snoring, weight lost is recommended to those who have gained excess body fats. According to studies, a 20% excess to the normal weight can cause snoring. The next thing to avoid before sleeping is taking alcohol. It is because alcohol can relax the muscles of the body including the throat more than the customary. Sedatives can greatly contribute to snoring. Besides, becoming accustomed to sedatives is bad not only to snoring but for the health in general. Smoking can also cause the mucous membranes to bulge that it narrows the passage of the air. This increases the velocity of the air inhaled that triggers the vibration of the muscles in the throat.

Snoring relief is a real problem for couples sleeping in the same bed especially if one partner is a light sleeper. Half of the adults in the US suffer from snoring, which can change their life.
Data indicates the following:
· 25% to 40% of couples sleep in separate rooms because of snoring
· over 75% of couples do not make love because of snoring
· snoring is a result of the airway being restricted
· being over weight leads to more snoring
· 1 in 7 snorers stop breathing all together while asleep
· snoring can reduce the average lifespan by 7 to 10 years
So what does the victim of snoring do to get some relief from their snoring partner? What follows are my own personal thoughts based on my research and actions, which some may call “due diligence”.
At first I was very irritated about the nightly snoring activities of my wife. If she went to sleep first, I would not get a good nights rest. Hence, I tried to beat her to bed. In some cases this worked to perfection as I was working 10 to 14 hour per day. On other nights I was so stressed from the day’s work I could not fall asleep. Unfortunately, I moved to another room. When this happens, the affection in ones marriages goes down the drain and you wake up in a foul mood.
I suggested to my wife that she see an ear, nose, and throat specialist (otolaryngologist). Her examination revealed a problem in her nasal passage. She was scheduled for nasal surgery several weeks later. This operation is serious and post surgery healing can be painful as it was in her case. The good news is that the snoring subsided somewhat, but did not totally disappear. As my wife began to gain weight, the problem of snoring returned with a vengeance.
Again, I suggested that she see a sleep doctor for a comprehensive examination with x-rays. The doctor indicated that a dental appliance might help to increase the amount of air reaching the lungs by as much as 300%, which probably would inhibit her snoring. Immediately, I wanted her to get fitted for this device, which was, covered my PPO. At last, I would be able to sleep with my wife and wake up feeling great!
One last comment. The doctor also recommended that she lose some weight and get an organic relaxation herbal tea. I was off to the store in a flash and ready for a cherished night with my partner.
In conclusion, snoring or sleep apnea can be cured. There are many snoring treatments and sleep apnea aids that can help. Please be patient with your partner in order to solve the problem and get a good night’s rest.

You have to stop believing that snoring is a sign of a good night sleep. It’s not! And it will never be. It might be cute in the first few minutes. After some time, it sets out to sound as if woodworking is happening in your room in the middle of the night time. And this is annoying. But if you have been snoring for days and your whole family cannot sleep, then you have to act now. Try these tips to put an end to their misery.
Stop drinking and smoking – These two can cause you to snore and wake up the whole block. The reason? Alcohol causes a partial collapse on your airways which can immediate start snoring. Smoking alternatively causes blockage on the small vessels of the lungs and puffiness on the tissue in the throat and mucus membrane in the nose. Smoking can result to sleep-apnea. Take note that if you stop drinking and smoking, you are stopping other health risks as well.
Sleep regularly – Sleeping for couple of hours every night can lead to snoring. Why? Unbalanced sleeping patterns grow into respiratory instability during sleep. And there is nothing good about respiratory instability as it may lead to unstable breathing. Hence, you need to regulate your sleeping patterns. Set a certain time of sleeping. Waken in the morning on a similar time, daily. Now and again, 7 to 8 hours of sleep is all you need.
Use anti snoring devices – The’re many of them in the marketplace. You can get homeopathic throat sprays and tablets, throat sprays, sleeping pillows, or nasal strips and dilators. These contraptions help your air passage to relax and take in and out the proper amount of air needed for a silent sleep.
Cure nasal congestion and allergies – If there is an inflammation on your of adenoids and/or tonsils which are the result of nasal congestion (cold) or allergies, you can get take decongestant or antibiotics. It is simple: treat nasal congestion or allergies and you will stop snoring.
Find an improved sleeping position – Some people discover it relaxing to fall asleep on the back while others are snug sleeping at the side. All the same, if the position you are snug sleeping in makes you snore, better find another one. Now and again, all you must do is to change your sleeping position to open your airways and prevent snoring.
Lose a few weight – There is nothing good about being an obese. It causes several health risks and naturally, it causes that load noise you create during sleep. Lose some weight by getting frequent physical exercise and taking, eating the right diet, and living a nourishing way of life.
Steer clear of snore-triggers – If you are taking sleeping pills and merchandise that contain antihistamines, then you are probably a snorer. These are sedating drugs that relax the muscles and nerves. Consequently, the muscle tone in the tissues of the throat relaxes and collapses. This triggers snoring identical to the result of cigarette smoking.
Consult a physician – Mild snorers can easily be cured. But the’re cases in which snoring is a proof of other serious medical problem like hypothyroidism or diabetes that needs surgery. If you are snoring for some time this is the proper time to consult a doctor.
