Because snoring is a big problem for many people (about forty-five percent) and technology has stepped in to solve some of the snoring problems there are many more snoring devices on the market then a few years ago. You can buy some of these snoring devices over the counter, but for others you require a doctor’s intervention. What type of snoring devices will be right for your snoring problem depends on the type of snoring problem you do. In general you should start with the most simple snoring devices you can find and move along when you notice it does not work.

Types of snoring devices

The simplest snoring devices are over the counter methods such as throat sprays or nasal dilation devices. Throat sprays help to lubricate the throat passages so that the airflow has an easier time getting through. Throat sprays also help to decrease swelling in the tonsils and uvula which also helps to reduce snoring. Nasal dilation aids to stop snoring help to hold the nasal passages open so that the person can breathe through his nose instead of his throat.

Because people who snore often do it when they sleep on their backs rather than on their sides, other snoring devices can help to ensure that you sleep your side instead of the back. There are pillows that help to do this that mold comfortably to the head and shoulders so that sleeping on the side is comfortable whereas sleeping on the back is not. There are also mattresses that help to do the same thing, making sleeping on the side the most comfortable position, thus reducing or eliminating snoring.

Other snoring devices help to hold the mouth closed or the throat passages open. Snoring devices like chin straps go around the head and chin to gently hold the mouth closed while sleeping, thus helping the user to learn to breathe out of his nose while sleeping instead of his mouth. There are also snoring devices like mouth sealing devices that do the same thing. Mouth pieces can be created by dentists that will help to hold the tongue in place so that it does not slip to the back of the throat and constrict the air flow, causing snoring.

There are also more extreme snoring devices and we advise you to only use these on doctors advise. These are snoring devices such as radio frequency tissue reduction, and surgeries that you only should do when you have no other options.
